Somatics and Sound

Where: 9 Marten Road, Folkestone, CT20 2JR

When: Saturday 8th August 10-11.30 am ‍‍

Cost : £20

Join Emma Meehan and myself for an exploratory journey into Somatics and Sound.

This workshop will introduce somatic body awareness through gentle movement, with sound used to support and deepen the experience. As participants connect with their embodied sensations and expressions, there will be opportunities to explore vocal sounding in a natural and supportive way.

Throughout the session, I will use my voice and a range of gentle sounds to support participants' experiences, while Emma guides the somatic movement and awareness practices.

We will end the session with a deeply relaxing sound bath featuring an array of instruments and my voice, including gongs, singing bowls, and percussion, creating space for reflection, integration, and rest.

There is also an invitation to stay behind and gather in community afterwards for tea and light snacks to help ground the session.

About Emma Meehan

Emma Meehan is a researcher in the performing arts and has been studying a variety of somatic movement practices since 2005. Her main teachers have included practitioners whose work brings together creativity and wellbeing, including choreographer Joan Davis (Ireland) and movement artist Sandra Reeve (UK). She has also collaborated with practitioners across a range of somatic disciplines, including Authentic Movement, Body-Mind Centering, and Amerta Movement.

Emma's research has focused on movement and chronic pain, and she is excited to collaborate in exploring how sound can act as a stimulus for embodied awareness and gentle movement.
